stubborn fire played havoc for firefighters Thursday evening.

2:07 AM Friday July 30 - The call came in around 6:20PM and heavy
smoke covered the down town area. As it got dark you could then see
the flames through the heavy smoke. Flames were coming out of the
building 6 hours after it started. By 2am the Nelson Fire Department
had a good handle on the situation and was able to get hydro back to
most of the 400 block of Baker and Vernon street. The Hume hotel
which is directly behind the fire is still evacuated due to the
close proximity of the fire. The Building housed 3 businesses one of
which is the Red Fish Grill restaurant were the fire may have
started.

FIRE IN DOWNTOWN NELSON
6:30PM July 29, 2010 - Fire crews are currently battling a fire in
the 400 block of Baker Street in Nelson. At the time these
photos were taken the fire was contained to the rear of the Red Fish
Grill restaurant.

Smoke &
steam can be scene from miles around but no flames were visible.
Firefighters are expected to be on the scene for several hours. The
400 block Bakers street and the alley directly behind the restaurant
could be closed until the fire is brought under control.

To date, the Southeast Fire Centre has
had 111 fires, which have burned 222 hectares. Of these fires, 44
were person caused and the rest were caused by lightning.

July 29, 2010 - 12PM -The Regional
District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) collects water samples on a
weekly basis at Taghum Beach. Beach water is analyzed for fecal
coliform bacteria. Samples taken this week indicate that bacteria
levels are once again within acceptable limits.

Hoc Kamloops-based model and Trail-based Critical Care Transport

continued to follow Fridays lead with yet another fatal motor
vehicle collision. This most recent event occurred just after 4:00
p.m. on Hwy 23 South, 11 kilometers north of the Shelter Bay ferry
terminal.

July 27, 2010 -4:10PM There are reports
of a brush fire near the end of Silver King Road, south of Nelson.
Nelson Fire Crews are responding and the Forest Service has been
notified. We will update as information becomes available.
UPDATE JULY 28 -
The fire was quickly extinguished shortly after it started by a
lightning strike.

On Sunday a female was struck by
a vehicle that drove onto the sidewalk in the 100 block of 14th
Avenue South. The vehicle left the scene before the police arrived.
The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to the East Kootenay
Regional Hospital for treatment. Police are asking for the public’s
assistance in locating the vehicle that left the scene. The vehicle
is a blue 1995 Dodge Caravan with the B.C. licence plate 343 RCF.

FIRE NEAR NELSON UPDATE

16, 2010 - BC Forest Service firefighters assisted the City of
Nelson power line crews with a fire that ignited yesterday at
approximately 3pm as a result of tree falling on a power line about
1.5km up the Kokanee Creek forest service road. The fire grew to ½
hectare in size and was fought by three initial attack crews and was
quickly contained a few hours later. Today, two initial attack
firefighters are mopping up the fire. The fire did not threaten any
buildings or structures.
