10 Kilograms of Cocaine Seized Outside
of Creston
TMTV/BCTV Kootenays March 12, 2010 - RCMP
Officers take a 46-year-old man into custody
and seize 10 kilograms of cocaine after a
commercial truck crossed into BC at the
Kingsgate Port of Entry, just outside of
Creston, BC.
On Saturday March 6, the RCMP Creston
Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET)
was called out to assist Canada Border
Service Agency (CBSA) Officers who located
10 kilograms of cocaine concealed within a
Commercial Truck.
Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers
took the 46-year-old male driver from
Calgary into custody and took possession of
the cocaine. RCMP Creston IBET Officers
continue to work with CBSA, United States
Border Patrol and the RCMP Southeast
District Drug Section as they investigate
further. The 46-year-old male is expected to
make his first court appearance on May 19,
2010.
“This quantity of cocaine could only be
arranged by an organized criminal group”
says Sgt Duncan Pound of the RCMP Border
Integrity Program, “and the circumstances of
this foiled importation attempt will be
thoroughly investigated. A seizure of this
size represents a law enforcement success
story towards keeping our communities safe.”
The RCMP Federal Border Integrity Program
targets criminal organizations and
individuals who engage in criminal activity
that exploits Canada’s border with the US.
The RCMP will continue to work with their
local and international partners to mitigate
this exploitation.
