Fire at Kootenay Lake Hospital July 15, 2010 - A fire in the basement of the Kootenay Lake Hospital this afternoon caused major concern. The fire was quickly contained by the Nelson Fire Department which prevented the fire from spreading. The cause of the fire is not know and the investigation is currently underway.

Large evacuation in Nelson due to gas leak  July 14, 2010 - Roads were closed and homes evacuated after a gas line was ruptured in the Fairview area of Nelson BC this morning. VIDEO OF FIRE  July 6, 2010 -  53 year old Randolph Hanoski who is out on bail with conditions has entered a not guilty plea after he was charged with burning down the Silver Ledge Hotel in Ainsworth BC last month. The next court date is for late September.

Man's Body Found July 6, 2010 - The body of a missing canoer has been found in the Kettle River. Fourty four year old Dimitri Kolodka of Grand Forks went missing last June 12th while canoeing with a friend on the Kettle River. Foul play is not suspected.

Body of missing man recovered Nakusp B.C. July 1, 2010 - Arrow Lakes Search and Rescue along with the RCMP were able to recover the body and identify the man as Billy Coffman. Coffman had gone missing in the early morning hours on June 9 after he was said to have lost his footing and fell into the Kuskanax River around the bridge on Highway 23. An initial search of the area that lasted for days turned up nothing. The B.C. Coroners Office in Penticton will be assisting in the investigation to find the exact cause of death.

Castlegar Teen Drowned  TMTV/BCTV - June 28 - The autopsy of 19 year old Castlegar resident Zachary Larsen has concluded, the teen died by drowning. TMTV NEWS AIRING ON GLOBAL TV @ NOON, 5PM, 6PM & 11PM THURSDAY The former Silver Ledge Hotel in Ainsworth BC burned to the ground this morning. The fire stared next to the hotel in a trailer which was quickly destroyed by the fire and then spread to the former hotel. Kaslo Fire Department and other emergency agencies arrived on scene but could not save the old hotel. It burned to the ground shortly after. The hotel was built in 1896 and was being  used as museum. At this time fire officials don't know what started the fire but the investigation will continue.

A SAD DAY IN AINSWORTH BC The Silver Ledge Hotel in Ainsworth B.C. built in 1896 after a fire had destroyed the town earlier that year. It was used as a hotel until 1949. After being closed for 14 years it was then purchased by two Calgary families and used as a “summer cottage”. During the 60s and 70s cosmetic and structural restoration produced local interest in the building and historical research. It then became a museum in 1976, holding many of the local artifacts, photos and other memorabilia which was all destroyed in the fire.

Witnesses say the plane was smoking from the engine and the plane was sputtering just before the pilot ditched it into the water. The pilot and one passenger were rescued by boaters almost immediately after it hit the water. Reports are the plane sank very quickly. BC Ambulance, RCMP, Balfour Fire Rescue and Nelson Search and Rescue attended the scene. There were no injuries reported. Environment Canada will be assessing the scene because the plane is leaking fuel.

Jeep hits two girls on toboggan in Cranbrook, BC  Jan 21, 2010 - 11PM Two 11-year-old girls in Cranbrook, B.C., were hit by a Jeep Thursday when they slid down a hill on a toboggan and onto a road, police said.  The two girls were taken to East Kootenay Hospital and then flown to Vancouver Children's Hospital with serious injuries. The accident happened in a semi-rural area in the 2000-block of 25th Street South. The girls had been sliding down a hill on a private property and then crossed onto a public road, police said. The 26-year-old driver was unable to stop. Road conditions at the time were icy.

TRAIN INCIDENT IN NELSON  TMTV/BCTV Kootenays Oct 30, 2009 - The CPR train heading east out of Nelson was stopped for a couple of hours after the train engineer thought he may have struck someone walking on the tracks. RCMP dog team, Nelson City Police along with Nelson Fire and Rescue searched the soccer field and Lakeside Park area by Kootenay Lake but found no one with any injuries. CPR Police have been notified and will continue the investigation. The train blocked one of the entrances to the mall area but has since moved. The incident was called in at the same time power was knocked out to much of Nelson and the north shore, making residence believed it was a train crash or derailment, but that was not the case. The power outage and the stopped train was un-related.

PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING AFTER COCKPIT FIRE   TMTV/BCTV Kootenays Exclusive, Oct 21, 2009 - An Air Canada Jazz de Havilland Dash 8-300, flight QK-8216 from Cranbrook, BC to Vancouver, BC on Tuesday had already descended towards Vancouver and was 30 minutes east of Vancouver at 10000 feet, when the crew declared an emergency, reporting a fire in the cockpit. The crew requested a straight in approach to one of the runways. The crew managed to contain the fire, the smoke dissipated, the outer pane of the left hand windshield shattered however leaving only the inner pane intact. The airplane was cleared to land and touched down safely with emergency services on stand-by. The runway was closed for several minutes.

Cell phone while driving to be outlawed in 2010  Oct 21, 2009 - Solicitor General Kash Heed has introduced a bill banning the use of handheld cell phones while driving. Motorists will be forced to use a hands-free device. The new law will take effect on February 1, 2010.
