 Media from all over the country and the USA will once again descend on the small community of Creston BC were two leaders in the polygamous community of Bountiful, B.C., are charged with practicing polygamy under the Criminal Code. Winston Blackmore, 52, and James Oler, 44, were arrested by RCMP on Tuesday Jan 6th. Oler is the bishop of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, while Blackmore is the former FLDS bishop who was ousted in 2002 after a power struggle with the sect's prophet Warren Jeffs. AIRING ON GLOBAL TV: Nelson BC Canada  TMTV/BCTV   - Jan 1, 2009 An explosion and fire completely destroyed the Nelson business of Kootenay Sleds and Wheels. At approximately 10:45PM (Dec 31) this evening a report came in of an explosion across the Nelson bridge at a building which houses motorcycles, snowmobiles and ATVs. On arrival the buildings front doors and windows were blown out and the building was on fire. A second explosion happened while emergency crews & our TV crew were on scene. No reports of injury but the explosion rocked the neighborhood. Highway 3A on the north shore of Nelson was closed and is currently down to one lane of traffic while fire crews knock down the fire & mop up the scene. This is the second major fire in Nelson within the past two days, and the third since December 19th, that fire, claimed the life of a Nelson resident.

Canada.  A Train derailed south of Trail BC today. The train with two engines and several cars crashed across Highway 22A south of Trail BC. Several box cars and the two locomotives are laying sideways blocking the highway. The Columbia River is on the opposite side of the railway but none of the cars ended up in the river, but did manage to cross the highway narrowly missing one vehicle. No injuries are reported. EIGHT SNOWMOBILERS TRAPPED AFTER AVALANCHE IN EAST KOOTENAYS

   4:00 PM - December 28, 2008 - An avalanche near the Kootenay community of Fernie BC may have caught as many as eight snowmobilers. Reports are that three of the snowmobilers had dug themselves out. Search and rescue has been called and camera crews are on their way to the scene. Rescue teams were forced to call off the search as night fell. It is expected that the search will resume early Monday morning. More updates to come...

AVALANCHE WARNING HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THE AREA - A special avalanche watch was issued last week for the area by the Canadian Avalanche Centre. The CAC says, conditions are rated as poor and travel is not recommended in the back country. Mountain conditions, especially around Fernie and the Lizard ranges, have changed and they are now seeing avalanches starting to affect this region. The area will become more reactive to human-triggering, and bigger, over the coming days. People are keen to get out, and have time to do so over the holiday period, but don't let your enthusiasm, or that of your friends, carry you to places you'll regret later on. Unstable conditions will likely persist for a while into the future. Knowing when to back off and when to let ‘er loose is the mark of a wise backcountry traveler - thumb off the throttle is a good move right now.

AVALANCHE DANGER CLOSES HIGHWAY 31 Updated on Sat Dec 27 at 3:41 pm. The Highway reopened from Coffee Creek Bridge to 2.5 km north of Coffee Creek Bridge after high avalanche hazard in the area Saturday. Coffee Creek is located north of Balfour BC.

The snowpack in the Columbia Mountains south of Revelstoke to the US border and east of the Okanagan Valley to Golden, Invermere and Cranbrook is similar to the South Coast, and avalanche danger will increase quickly with significant snowfall. Backcountry users are encouraged to obtain current information from the CAC’s public avalanche forecasts, which are being updated daily during the holidays at www.avalanche.ca or 1-800-667-1105.

Cause of fire that Killed a Nelson resident   Watch TMTV News Footage on YouTube - Dec 22, 2008 - A leaky propane tank is the likely cause of Fridays fire which killed Maurice John Eggie, 59 of Nelson. Mr. Eggie died when his camper he was living in caught fire and burned last Friday. The camper was parked inside a garage that was fully involved when the Nelson Fire Department arrived.

TRAIL VOLUNTEERS BREAK RECORD Team of Trail volunteers have broken their local record of 525 boxes and will be shipping 850 boxes to Samaritans Purse, the Christian organization that spearheads the Christmas shoe box initiative.  For the last few years, Dwayne McDonnell, who is the Fire Captain for Teck, has been the co-ordinator Operation Christmas Children (OCC) for the Trail/Rossland /Fruitvale area. McDonnell helps raise awareness for people to pack shoe boxes with toys, school supplies, clothes and goodies to send to children in some of the world’s most troubled regions. For some of these children it will be the only gift they ever receive.

One person dead following a structure fire in Nelson  Watch TMTV News Footage on YouTube TMTV Nelson BC Canada - Friday, Dec 18, 2008. The Nelson Fire Department and Nelson City Police are investigating a structure fire in the city of Nelson. At around 10AM this morning Nelson Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure that was fully involved in flames on the south side of Highway 3A at the 700 block Lakeview Crescent. Upon their arrival a garage structure with a camper inside was engulfed in flames. The body of one individual was found within the structure and is believed to have perished as a result of the fire. No names have been released and the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature but the Fire Department is asking the public to provide any information they may have.

Nelson Hydro Asking Public to Refrain From Over Use Of Power  TMTV/BCTV Kootenays - Nelson BC, Canada Dec 15, 2008 - The City of Nelson and Nelson Hydro are requesting citizens that are serviced by Nelson Hydro refrain from using unnecessary amounts of power between the hours of  3pm-7pm daily. This is due to excessive consumption being used during peak hours with the cold weather. Two power outages in the area with-in the last two days lasted up to four hours during each outage.

Person killed in Kitchener motorhome fire Creston Valley Advance Dec 11, 2008 - A deceased person was found in a burning 1987 Winnebago motorhome in Kitchener at the intersection of Highway 3 and Airport Road at about 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, RCMP Cpl. Rob Knapton said yesterday. The vehicle was first noticed by highway maintenance personnel, who were unsuccessful in attempts to douse the fire. There is no fire protection service in the area, Knapton said. The incident is under investigation.

Homicide Investigation Underway in Warfield BC - TMTV/BCTV Kootenays. 11:49PM November 25 - Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment attended a single vehicle accident on Highway 3B just west of Trail BC and discovered the driver of the vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound. The male victim was taken to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital were he was pronounced deceased. Highway 3B in the Warfiled area is currently closed. The investigation is continuing.

Woman Wanted by FBI may be in the Nelson area of the Kootenays: Police The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of Rebecca J. Rubin. Rebecca J Rubin - 1998 photo RCMP are asking for your help to track down a woman, wanted by the FBI, who may be here in BC. Rebecca Rubin and three other people are alleged to be eco-terrorists, blamed for a string of vandalism and arson attacks in the Western US, notably the firebombing of a ski resort in Vail, Colorado, in 1998. RCMP Constable Annie Linteau with E-Division says police here have been speaking with the FBI. "The E-Division Integrated National Security Enforcement Team has been assisting the FBI in this investigation.  And during the course of their investigation, we have received some information that she may be in the Nelson area, in the Kootenays." Linteau says they believe Rubin is a Canadian and may have relatives in the Lower Mainland. She says they don't have any information to suggest Rubin poses a risk to the public, although the FBI warn that she may be armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Rebecca Rubin is asked to call police.

RCMP WARN OF SLIPPERY ROADS  TMTV/BCTV Nov 19, 2008 - Local RCMP are warning motorists to be careful on local roads. There were a number of accidents Wednesday all involving vehicles sliding off the road or crashing into one another. All though the roads look dry there is black ice in many areas due to cooler temperatures. RCMP say to slow down an drive with caution especially in shaded areas, bridge decks or highways at higher elevations.
