“Corporate Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan”
NELSON (February 26, 2010) – On March 4th, 2010 the City of
Nelson will be hosting a
Public Open House in Council Chambers, 2nd floor, 310 Ward
Street. At 6:30 pm, there
will be a presentation of the Corporate Greenhouse Gas
Reduction Plan in conjunction
with the 2010 Financial Plan.
Mayor John Dooley says “the purpose of the Corporate
Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Plan is to create a roadmap for the reduction of greenhouse
gas emissions produced
through the corporate operations of the City of Nelson.
Community greenhouse gas
emissions are being addressed under a separate plan. The
initial focus of the plan is on
building upgrades, since the building sector makes up the
largest component of
greenhouse gas emissions. As the more readily identifiable
projects are completed in
the early stages, new technologies and innovative ideas from
City staff will play a key
role in the continued success of this plan.”
The plan includes an inventory of all emissions generated
through corporate operations
and greenhouse gas reduction targets are identified for the
years 2015, 2020, and 2025.
In addition, the action plan outlines a list of initiatives
to be implemented over the next
five years to meet the reduction target for 2015.
